In Situ Site Investigation carried out Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) and Magnetometer Tests for a 5-day project in Somerset where ‘Toni’, CPT 025, was utilised. The client specifically requested the use of a ‘track-truck’ for this investigation because the rig was needed to cross and travel along public roads in order to reach the required locations. These were spread across a wide area of fields where the tracks were also necessary with the majority of the site being open grassland. The site was also effected by standing surface water within the fields so being able to switch easily between tracks and wheels was fundamental to enable to project to run within the required timeframe.
The purpose of the site investigation was to inform piling and foundation design for further development of industrial units. CPTs were undertaken to form part of the GI where tests went to depths of between 15.57m and 18.38m through topsoil, tidal flat deposits and mudstone.
